Londone!



The Virgin London Marathon April 25th 2010
I have loaded up on carbs and drastically changed my diet and lifestyle,, dropped alcohol to near non existent levels and obviously stopped smoking 11 months ago, all in preparation for this day!
After 11 months in the planning, I cannot believe the day had actually arrived!
I have been relatively fit, a couple of niggles, one of which I will come on to later, but training has gone really well! It was a 10 mile entrance into which a steady progression of weekly runs up to 20 miles and then a 3 week taper. I have been running in all sorts of weather, and loved every minute of it!
I set off at 6.45 for the station and felt fantastic....40 and butterflies in my tummy!
As I approached the station I could see more and more of the marathon kit bags and knowing nods and nervous smiles from other runners, funny I thought I would recognise a few people but I didn’t, off at London bridge and then the train to Greenwich.
Very very busy, it’s a slick operation they run, marshals all over the place directing you to your designated area.
I was on the red start and in pen 5 which was a 4hr marathon area..i just had a walk around to begin with, before I started to get myself ready, had a coffee, grabbed a sport drink, went to the loo etc. Big screens all over the park showing the wheelchair race going off, police and tv choppers buzzing around above...i was starting to feel like I was in something big!
Went through my pre race routine, anti chaff cream, plasters, running belt, last few calls to relatives.
I was running with a run bag, as I needed a phone to phone ahead to my relatives so they could pace me. I would have been devastated to not see them as I ran, seeing them was going to be a big highlight! I also had some carbo gels, pain killers and spare plasters...I'd not run with a bag before, but it felt fine..hardly knew I had it!
Kit bag got dropped off in the designated area, again very slick operation; I bumped into a few more sparks runners, which was good to have a few minutes to kill a bit of time! Rain started to fall which was cold but was a lot better than the 23oC they had forecast!
I knew my cousin Carl was running in the pen behind me, so I took a slow walk past the entrance and lo and behold a group of people moved off and like an oasis Carl was standing there behind them, he was running on his own as well. We both chatted nervously then decided to get in place. The atmosphere was buzzing, absolutely electric, even with the rain!
The 1st runners were away, we surged forward and stopped, I was expecting this, then we were jogging slowly then we didn’t stop again, I was over the start line in 3 minutes I couldn’t bloody believe it I ‘m running t London marathon!
Now they said the crowds at the London marathon were the best in the world. Better than New York, Paris, Berlin etc but they were fantastic, I had my name put on my shirt as you can see from the photos and was suggested to me, and to have people acknowledge you and your achievements
Brings a huge smile to your face....
The first few miles went by I was trying to take it all in, getting use to running in a big group, looking for various signs for drinks and loos on route, I needed neither, but wanted to know what I was looking for further on.
There were spectators all over the place, balconies, walls, churches, community centres, pubs restaurants had all laid on special events for the day...this was not a race but a carnival..Brilliant.
I don’t know what the pub was called but there must of been 100 people outside dressed as pirates great effort and really funny!
Its really good to see all the kids holding their hands out to be hi fived as we run past, makes their day!
After 6/7 miles I noticed my foot hurting a bit, so I took some pain killers to nip it in the bud...Im not stopping, no way hose!
Its funny when you’re running looking around at other runners, everyone doing this for their own reasons and charities, pictures of lost love ones on their backs with messages..Very moving, very moving indeed. Then you get the fancy dress runners, there was 1 guy who I ran with for a while called Deano, dresses as a penguin, and raising money for penguin ward at Gt Ormond Street Hospital. Fantastic guy, I ran with him for 4 miles and actually used him as a marker.
It was hard to see people in the crowd, I had family at mile 9 (I was too quick and was there before them), mile 11, 14,18,22,25...that’s a lot of looking to do, people are shouting and cheering mums dads etc so that’s why I had my phone, so I could get an area to look for them at points the crowds are 6/7 deep!
I phoned ahead to my brother in law who I knew was going to be at mile 11 with his girl friend Helen, Imogen and Elliot and said look for the penguin, when you see the penguin I'm with him...and lo and behold I heard them shouting me as I went past...brilliant absolutely brilliant! I wasn’t feeling to shabby.
My time was good, I’m about on target to hit 4hrs, over Tower bridge and I wasn’t looking forward to this next leg, don’t know why, but thought I would struggle, and I did to an extent, I didn’t see dad at mile 14, that was a bit deflating, but the course doubles back at this point on the other side of the road which is mile 22..so dad could have been on that side...who knows? The elite athletes were coming back on that side, and they looked good and fast!
So now I'm running down on the isle of dogs round and back up to canary wharf, fantastic support all the way, really brilliant, the sun is coming out now and it is warning up, the noise is incredible in canary wharf between all the office blocks and then again I hear Daddy Daddy! And there shouting Imogen Elliot, Si and Helen are cheering me on, they had a plum spot, I could see them clearly...fanbloodytastic! I blew them kisses and keep on running this is mile 19, I am now entering unknown territory, my biggest run before this is 21 miles.
I felt ok, just, my right thigh was feeling tight and my left shin sore, but I necked a few more pills and onward we go! Poplar, lime house, I kind of am in a trance like state now, just running I have had enough sport drinks an gels there not working anymore only making me feel queasy and I am aware I'm dropping time, I cannot keep this pace up.
As I run along commercial road I'm aware that Dad and Jean are going to be around here, 14 and 22 on the same stretch just opposites sides of the road, so I’m looking and looking, I cannot get my phone to work as it has jammed, and quite frankly I just can’t, I go through mile 21, the just as I hot 22 on the 14 mile side of the road I hear....JONATHAN!! Shouting at me ..Just like the good old days! I turned round raised my arms for a photo gave them the thumbs up and guess what.....on I go!
Now I am at mile 23 now and I'm struggling I decide that as I go in to the tunnel at Upper Thames Street I am going to reboot the phone, the phone won’t let me and I haven’t got time to muck about! my time has slowed I feel that I won’t break 4 hrs this year, but more importantly I knew that my wife Feralyn, Maureen, Felix and Ottilie are going to be along the embankment, I hope I'm lucky enough to see them, all I can do is run.
I have this romantic image of me running along towards the Houses of Parliament, sunshine, thousands lining the route, me grinning waving bouncing along the embankment, I can’t remember any of it! I must of looked like I was having a tough time, as the spectators are really calling my name, shouting me on, willing me to finish, I am scanning the route looking and looking, I know they are going to be on my right, I hear something that makes me turn round, and I see them.....this is exactly what I need, timing shot I stop make my way over, give them all a very sweaty kiss tell them I won’t be long and away I go!
I am well chuffed I have seen everyone who has come to see me run...as I hit Parliament Square, my right leg is really stiff and I have to stop at birdcage walk for a few stretches to get rid of a cramp, I start off again with a few strides, and I could of carried on walking, however the crowd has none of it and tell me to get going, as I do a great cheer goes up! They are well proud of themselves.
As I round the corner Buckingham Palace in front of me, I read the sign 400rds to go what a site! No sprinting, just over the line in a respectable 4.14.
I am well chuffed, feeling lightheaded, a bit sick, hot, I grab my medal, a goody bag with water which I desperately need, pick up my kit bag and make my way over to the meet and greet area.

A truly memorable day for so many reasons!

Race Week!


Don’t get me wrong, I have really enjoyed the training, I have been running in rain, snow, wind, frost, fog, dark, mornings, evenings, on treadmills and sunshine….bliss! however this weekend, apart from quite a nippy 10k on Friday evening I had the weekend off! Which was nice…..however I have been kept busy by various other tasks…. Food shopping, and allotment on Saturday morning, I managed to get another 2 grassy beds dug over, very nearly ready for my rocket garden when it arrives, so far I have early and mid early potatoes in, radishes, blackberries, redcurrants, onions and garlic, and at home in seed pots, we have tomatoes, celeriac, parsnips and the children’s sweet corn…which looks really impressive!
Saturday afternoon I took Felix and Imogen swimming, Ottilie didn’t make it as she through a paddy and stayed at home with Feralyn…..she wasn’t happy….Felix however was loving it as Imogen is a confident swimmer and can go off and swim and go off the diving boards. Felix has me to himself; he can swim now a little without armbands and kind of dive/belly flop…tres funny!
After that we all go to the play park…cracking to see it full on a sunny Saturday afternoon….bribery and corruption we managed to get the children out with a lolly and home for Dr Who. We were trying to wear them out as we had the lord and lady over for dinner, I found these scallops which I pan fried with capers, sage and lemon…delicious, and then a slow braised lamb shank in red wine onions and balsamic vinegar….notice the Italian theme? Finished off with a raspberry tart…nice! And only a couple of glasses of wine! When in Rome...
Sunday consisted of Car boot in the morning, wasn’t really in the mood, but I did find some really nice sleeping bags for the kiddies for our weekend camping expeditions!
Also a DVD player for the grown up room! Oh and some raspberry canes!
Felix and Ottilie had a party @ 10.30, weird time, but best to get these things over with and it leaves the rest of the day to us! While they were partying, Feralyn, Imogen and I went for a walk over to Penshurst, which was beautiful, looking lovely, heard cuckoos, saw lambs etc, I’ll have some photos up on face book soon!
Home after that, roast in, gave the kids bikes a going over, washed, pumped and oiled…then I did the bikes…LOL

1st lunch in the garden of the year…fantastic, I could get used to this!
We banned the kids from TV yesterday, until the evening, so they were outside digging, bouncing, reading, kicking, shouting, screaming, etc…poor neighbors!

In the evening we kicked back and relaxed watched Dr Who again, then a film that I recorded the night before…Run Fatboy Run, Simon Pegg runs a marathon for the 1st time…funny!

This is what I do most weekends when I run as well, but pure bliss when I haven’t got a 6am 15-20 miler to contend with!

A school friend ran the Brighton marathon, his 1st on Sunday, and came in @ 4.40, a great run Matt! We have been matching times whilst in training so as the weather looks cracking, its harder to run in the heat! slightly nervous!
Any how, lots of carbs for me this week, 3 little 5k runs and that’s it Sunday here I come!

13 days!


That feels good, my last long run before the London Marathon!

Training I think is going to plan, I have begun to taper down now, and it does feel strange! I think I should be doing more, I am having to stop myself!

Last week consisted of 4 x 5-7k runs and a 20 k on Saturday morning and a good session in the Gym, rest on Sunday, ha ha me rest….no chance!
This week is tricky as I am away a bit and won’t be able to run so I am shifting it around a little, but non the less I will achieve 4-5 runs albeit small ones!

My niggling knee played up a little bit at the weekend, it seems to be better when I’m running up hill! What does that mean?…I do hope it holds for the day!

As far as times are concerned, 4 hrs is going to be a big ask, I mean last year I couldn’t run at all, so maybe I’m trying to achieve too much…I don’t know we’ll have to see on the day, I’m starting to think about the weather, I don’t want it too warm.

For those that know the routine, I am starting at the Red Start, and my number is 47656…do look out for me!

I am getting mighty excited about the Big Day now, by the sounds of it there will be quite a few friends and relatives on my way round, that, I cannot wait for, I really hope I see them! The one person I cannot wait to see is Imogen her smiling face has kept me going no end on cold miserable wet runs this last 13 weeks!

Last Long Run!


Well to be honest I’m well pleased that is over and done with…..my last long run before the big day!
20 bloody miles! It was really hard work…really hard work…
I set off again early at 6.15, I was very wary of the weather forecast, not good, let alone running my longest distance was making me nervous, I did not want to do it wet! And as I left there were big black clouds on the horizon. However, it stayed dry, weather men got it wrong again…but in my favor!
I did my normal routes, Lorraine’s 10k, St Philips loop, 10k and another Lorraine's 10k, after that I did a small diversion just to push me over the 20 miles to be sure, as the damn run keeper on my phone went wrong again…really really annoying, don’t buy it!

One of the highlights was a White Stag Deer I saw on Mousenden Farm Tunbridge Wells at about 6.30 in the morning, quite inspiring! Spring is well on the way, leaves budding, daffs, forsythia, blossoms, its all looking really good! I’m looking forward to this summer, as we have an allotment now as well!

Running wise I was ok until mile14 when my knee started giving me pain…I had not that before, so I was a little worried, and it didn’t seem to be going away, it felt better when I was running up hill.
Probably wrong, but I stopped and gave it a stretch and carried on regardless, it was still hurting but better…I’ll take same pain killers with me on the big one, but I did a little recovery run yesterday morning, and it didn’t hurt at all….

I was running in total for 3 hrs 20 mins, I felt I was seizing up as I ran, but again I ran the longest route home, and hobbled in……I am well chuffed with my fitness, I could not have done 2 miles this time last year, but its these pains which are giving me cause for concern, but as I’m tapering down now I’m hoping they will go away.

I went and had a cold bath which does really help the muscles, and endless enjoyment for the kids, and I enjoyed Easter with a few glasses of Vino Collapso!

Busy weekend on that front, 13 for lunch on Sunday, Mum came down, which was great as she has been so poorly with Peumonia….she looked fantastic and says she feels brilliant! And loved being with the children!
Lots of gardening at home and down the allotment, Potatoes and Radishes are in, Sweet corn seeds are going really well, Felix loves it! Fruit Trees done, a quick dig over and now just waiting for my Rocket Garden to arrive!

3 Weeks and Counting....



I did my longest run this weekend….ever! 18 miles...it was ok, energy wise I felt fine, a few little aches as I went on, but nothing serious, my worst injury form the weekend, was again a couple of points on my chest, and also my iphone strap rubbing….tres sore!

I did my normal routes; I won’t bore you with the details…however I did kill a very steep hill @ mile 15 which I was very impressed with myself.

One more week of intense runs and a big 20-21 miler on Saturday, that’s the maximum I will go to, then start to taper down…I am so pleased the clocks have gone forward…no more running in the dark…I also get to do more with the Kids….

Really concentrating on eating well and not drinking ….much….I had a few glasses on Saturday night with some pals….very nice it was too!
Also I have knocked Caffine on the head…I have done now, for 10 days…and I’m not sure how I feel about that ( if I feel better or not)?

Feralyn and the children have been fantastic while I have been training…really letting me get on with it, also letting me recover after 18 miles does take an hour or so, with an ice bath etc! They think I’m a nutter!

Must crack on now….very busy at work…as some of you will be pleased to know….the wonderful world of Mavala!

I am getting very excited!!!! I’m like a big kid.

Oh I do like to be beside the Seaside!


All is going well….touch wood and keeping everything crossed!
Last week I trained 5 nights, session down the gym a rest day on Saturday (which was fanbloodytastic), and the Hastings Half Marathon Yesterday!

Trainings were ok, various routes around town, including Lorraine’s 10k, St Marks Loop, and a Tesco Sprint…these mean nothing to anyone but me, probably I will link all these together over the next few weeks to build some miles up! I can’t wait for the clocks to change; I’m a bit fed up running in the dark.

As for the half marathon I took it all very seriously, ate well, slept well, up early etc
I really wanted to beat my previous time; this is the only way to go!

I set off well and by pure fluke found myself by the 9 minute mile pacer, I ran with her for a while but I thought I could push on, so I did, quite hilly the 1st part, flattens out after mile 7, the crowds were out and cheering everyone along, I knew no one but still it really helps…any how a bonus of this race was that Feralyn and the Children were at Feralyns Aunts House (Ganty) which is on the route, this was at mile 10, I could of cried when I saw them…I’m useless like that! Really really lovely to see them, they had made flags and bought me drinks etc…I was well chuffed, so I took a deep proud breath and went on for the last 3 miles…quite hard but I put this down to psychologically knowing that your nearly finished…… I managed to wipe off 4 minutes…1.51.15secs official time…which was nice! Averaging 8.33 miles an hour I think? Tres Happy!

I picked my medal up, got my bag, changed my top and took a jog back to Feralyn for an ice bath, followed by a hot bath followed by lunch……followed by hide and seek with the kids, and yes I won, they had to get mummy to help!

2 weekends of big runs left now, it really isn’t long to go, Feralyn still is brilliant at getting me out there running and looking after the home front!

Grumpy!


Grumpy wasn’t the word to the way I felt on Friday night, I should be out or at least having people round, but as I’m not drinking, I don’t really feel like socializing, is that bad of me, perhaps I was just in one of those moods…….any how, my motivational guru turns up and gives me a right talking to! For those that don’t know who she is, she really is the best money or love can buy…that will be my eldest daughter Imogen (8).

In a nutshell pull your socks up and get a grip, life’s too short to mope around.
That type of talking to costs a fortune in the therapists chair!


The Martyr I am I swapped my Sunday run to a Saturday run, for Mothers day! and decided to retrace from last week, but my bloody sat nav played up a again, and whilst I was in the loo at Dunorlan park, It gave me another 2 miles!!! If only it was that easy!

Lovely run, but Saturday is clearly a different day, I was amazed as to how much busier it was, loads more runners out (maybe the Weather has an effect) and also the traffic.

The 1st part (Lorraine’s 10k) was ok, few little niggles from my shins…but again, once I climbed the hill over the A21 all pain disappears, same as last week, weird things happen at about 4 miles, your body starts doing things on its own…..delving in to fat stores for added energy and funny hormones kick in!....apparently…..?

I make my way back to the park, pick up my drink and refuel as it where, go to the loo and gain 2 miles which really bloody annoys me! I have the time from last week so I can see how I do against that, 2.06 last week, so I’m tracking ok, over the other side of Tunbridge Wells now, St Marks and Broadwater Down, cross over the Frant Road across to The Crowborough Road back up to Tunbridge wells up on the Common, to the Groombridge road, where Arron correctly guessed a face down playing card that someone had dropped, I do believe he’s still got it in his wallet for luck!

Any way I digress back along the top, then cut straight through town back up the hill to the park gates an back home! 2hrs on the nose and very happy with that!
I didn’t feel too bad, It is a really nice run, next week I have to add some miles, so I’m thinking of re – running the Lorraines 10k or another route, Im not sure yet!

I have 5 runs this week, including sprints, steadies and a 10k tomorrow, which I am looking forward to…believe it or not!

Frustrated of Tunbridge Wells!


A Cracking week of running last week…well I lie a little, Monday was a rest day after the ½ marathon and I was ill on Tuesday so that was off…..then I did a little on the treadmill @ the Gym on Wednesday….Soooooo Boring!

On Thursday I went out and was quite looking forward to a mid week 10k, but my shins where killing me, and rather run with an injury, I came back in early, I was really peeed off, and starting to worry a bit as I really want to run a sub 4, so I need to train!

Any how I rested on Friday which was nice…..and went for a gentle jog on Saturday morning, with a LSR (Long Sunday Run) in mind! It went ok, I could feel a little discomfort but ok…..

So Sunday dawns and it was a cracking morning, really frosty, I was out at 6.30 , I had my new power gels for my run,(like frube yoghurts, but concentrate lucozade) and stashed a few on the way out at a cross over point about 10k in.
The first part I was really nervous about running (shins) so took it really easy, it went well, loving it, at the top of the hill by the A21 which is very steep, all pain had gone! And I made the hill no problem at all……I hate to say it but I’m really felling the benefit of not drinking! (normal service will be resumed)…any way on I go, pick up my gels and drink, and off I go on anther 10k, I felt really good….not fast at all, but I was thrilled with my fitness, and my recovery…..how I will feel over the next few weeks, I don’t know, as I have 4 LSR’s left 15, 17, 19, 21 miles then 2 weeks taper down….then the big day!
Very excited, must stay injury free!

My fundraising is going ok…wasn’t a good week last week as my mum was ill and I was all over the place…but I’m up to £780…. I would love to break the £1000 soon, I need to start talking to people direct….

Come in number 952 your time is up!



Well it was wet, windy, and it didn’t look like it was getting any better…if anything worse! I checked the website, and the race was on. I had invented a pre race routine, eaten carbs like a horse the 2 days previous, no alcohol, which was very testing as we had the lord and lady over for supper on Friday night! Up early on Sunday morning, few stretches little bit of breakfast, sports drink and off I go, kissing everyone goodbye as if this is the last time I’ll ever see them!
It was bloody miserable out, soaked on the start line, we all started the race with Dame Kelly Holmes on the foghorn, off it went! We all ripped off our waterproof ponchos and we all stood there getting wetter….. it took us a few minutes to get over the start line with a couple of thousand runners. I must say there was good banter amongst the runners, which did make up for the terrible weather…..

I must say I felt for the marshals and the spectators as at least we were running and keeping warm, they must have been freezing!

For those that don’t know the course it is lovely, (when the sun shines) 1 lap through the garden of England, starting from Tunbridge Wells, through to Southborough, left along Bidborough Ridge to Penshurst down Rouges Hill, through Penshurst, up Spring Hill to Fordcombe..(I’ll come back to that) out to Langton Green, and basically back in to Tunbridge Wells.

Well I got going fine, and was really enjoying myself, chatting away to a few people along the way, I then spotted a friend (Cliff) and decided to keep him in my sites to pace myself. I was having a ball, speeding up every now and then, dancing through puddles, and running through floods ( really, we were all drenched) I didn’t actually catch up with him until through Penshurst, I grabbed a sports drink in preparation for “The Hill”, which made me feel sick and threw it away.

And on to Spring Hill, now this was the focus and chat for a lot of the runners, and I think I focused on this a little too much, in my mind, get to the top of the hill and your home Jonny boy, no probs, bobs your uncle and so on!
I actually made it up there fine, and as an added bonus Dad and Jean were at the top waiting and cheering me on, (well Jean got out, Dad sat in the car and wound down the window! Ha ha!) This was great!

However I didn’t really realize, even though Feralyn had told me (how she knew I don’t know) that we were only really just over ½ way…….. Well I struggled on from there, I found it really hard work, I was listening to spectators saying nearly there, not long now, last hill etc, I was seriously flagging. I ate a Jelly baby and nearly choked! I was getting bored and the mile signs weren’t coming quick enough.
I saw a few friends on the home straight, which kept me going the last mile, (Clive, Helen and Tonto the dog) they said I looked awful, but we were dodging traffic at that point so I was concentrating on not falling over, getting run over, not walking or passing out! I nearly stopped to stroll for a bit, but I kept on and finished in a respectable 1hr 55mins.04secs…and Dad and Jean were there to see me over the finish line, wooohooo! I was very pleased to finish but a little disappointed. I was pleased with my time, but felt rubbish, no way could I have gone on much further, I have a lot of work to do for London! But I’m thinking a lot lot flatter and maybe the weather won’t be that bad!

On The Wagon


Day 10 and I'm not drinking....still, this seems to me to be the hardest bit so far......well not really!
I feel better for it.. I do...I do honest!
But for the record, this is the longest period since I was 16/17/18 that I havent had an alcoholic Beverage! Feralyn is sick and tired of me going on about it!
My running is going up a gear at the moment as well, I'm doing 5 runs a week, and have started the sprint work.
This week consists of, Mon-rest, Tues-30 mins easy, Weds- 30 mins including sprints, Thurs- 30 mins-Steady, Fri- Rest Staurday 30 mins Jog, Sun- 13 miles (Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon).
Last night I flew round a 5 k circuit, but jeez my split shins are killing me! Really painfull, I'll have to keep an eye on them!
Feralyn has been brilliant with letting me go out running whenever I need to, so if you haven't sponsered me yet, sponser her!
We have it down to a fine art, children fed and watered when Fezza gets in from work, and the house relativley tidy! I go off running and Imogen will run me a bath for when I get back in!
Tunbridge Wells 1/2 marathon on Sunday, this will give me a real indication of the time I expect to come in at, apparently I have to add 5% to this time, so if I come in off this hilly half in under 2 hours....well I may just fall off the wagon on Sunday night!
My fund raising is going ok, I feel a little embarrased asking people for money, but it is such a great little charity...
Sparks is the children’s medical research charity. The sole remit is to fund research across the whole spectrum of paediatric medicine. The goal is for all babies to be born healthy and stay healthy.
Every day 70 babies are born in the UK with a life-threatening condition or an illness that will affect them and their families for life. Sparks aims to reduce this statistic so all children have the chance of a healthy future.

Not a bad run on Sunday, I was off at silly o'clock for a brisk 10 miler......ruddy hard work, I have run longer, but jeez, it took me at least 5 miles to get in to this one.


Maybe its something to do with early mornings, I enjoy early rather than later, its nice watching the sunrise, and all the wildlife! Bunny's, Birds etc, I even turn the ipod off to gain maximum effect,( I run through farmland ).

Bloody Farmers dog always frightens the living daylights out of me, I must look a right jerk.....jumping...he looks like he enjoys it!

My time yesterday 1hr36 for 10 miles...which amazed me was the exact run!

At that rate I will not make my 4hr target!

I have 4 runs this week, and am going to start sprints which I hope will speed me up!


I have a friend from School days who is doing the Brighton Marathon, its really good to spar distances and times with him.......he did 10 miles in 1.30...........git!

Well I have been running honestly! I have managed 2 so far this week, with a run to go on Saturday and a 10 miler on Sunday....but I am very excited about getting a place in the Great North Run! along way to go for a 1/2 marathon, but the atmoshere will be fantastic!
2 x 6k runs and I am sure I am running a bit faster and feeling better afterwards.
Only 2 weeks to go untill the Tunbridge Wells half Marthon and the wroth of Spring Hill which I reckon to be 2k up up and more up...apparently it kills conversation!

Run Jonny Run!


Had a great couple of weeks, and I will endevour to post at least once a week!
Did a great run this weekend, 13 miles and I felt really good! The Weather was stunning, and the best bit was that I sorted out my iphone to play and keep track of my pace etc.
So far running training consists of. Monday rest, Tuesday run 40 mins, Wednesday Gym, Thursday Run 40 mins, Friday Rest/Gym, Saturday Run 30 mins, Sunday this week is 8 miles.
I am running the Tunbridge Wells 1/2 marathon on the 28th of Feb, so I'm feeling quietly confident of a sub 2hr...I hope.
Really enjoying it! and its amazing how much better i run without a drink! I'm trying not to drink at all in Feb! Wish me Luck!

I'm 40!


I have had a long weekend! and it was long! I wasn't sure whether I should go out today! However as i've been banging on about training, starting after my birthday, and my 1st day being a rest day, I couldn't not go out on the 1st run!
If I hadn't of got my new trainers (acis 2140) I probably wouldn't have gone!
Off I went with gusto, nice 10k around the park, off over the road, up to Bayhall Farm, through the field, up up and up again over the A21, back along Pembury High Street, and along Pembury Road and home, felt ok but tired, should have eaten before!
So here I am in training for the london Marathon! who'd of believed it!

Well it was great! really paced myself (due to having to look where I was going)! and came back and thought, easy..... could do that again no prob!

Just a few chavs lobbing snowballs at me, can't blame them, I would have done exactly the same, bloke in tights and a luminous top running up the road....no brainer really!

Lost Weekend


Ahhh! too much snow for me to run....is that being lightweight?....however Idid manage a 10k on the treadmill at the Gym, so feeling a bit better!
Training programm starts next Monday proper...after the weekend, which i dont know if im looking forward too!
Any how, hoping to run later, a little 5k to keep me intrested

One thing I really need to get my head around is the fundraising!

Well, i dont mind the snow, but im itching to get out and run, although my training doesnt start proper till the 17th, I feel I need to Fill my lungs and stretch my legs!

Here we are early January! well the pictures not, but ill change that later! and it seems just around the corner, the marathon that is! my first! 1 year ago I couldn't run a tap!
I will endevour to get this updated as much as I can, but i need to find the charger for the camera, and also find the time! which now I have put my training scedule in the diary, is quite frankly frightening the life out of me..........
